"Company: 2d Platoon has been engaged, they're pulling back from their current location and moving to a position behind Hill 271. They report bridge is intact, roadblock established south of bridge and an estimated enemy platoon with vehicles dug in. Here's the game plan:
"Fire Support Team: Establish OP on Hill 271. Get indirect fire on the enemy ASAP. Artillery FO, in addition, work up a smoke package using M825. FAC get something on station to kill those vehicles!
"1st Platoon: Push across Hill 119 using available terrain to cover your movement to a position north of the hill. Engage enemy west of main supply route (MSR). On order shift and cease fire. Remount immediately. Focus of effort shifts to you. On order you attack across the bridgehead to destroy any remaining enemy.
"2d Platoon: You are the main effort initially. Reorganize behind Hill 271. On order conduct a dismounted attack to seize and clear the bridge head.
"3d Platoon: Push to Hill 271 and establish a support by fire position. Initially engage enemy on both sides of the MSR. Once 1st Platoon commences fire, concentrate on the enemy force east of the MSR. On order shift and cease fire.
"60mm Mortars: Set up south of Hill 271 and send firecap when ready for missions. Priority of fires initially to 2d Platoon, then shift to 1st Platoon.
"AAVs: If possible, move into a hull defilade position in order to support main effort's seizure of the objective.
"All right, keep communicating both horizontally and vertically up the chain of command. Semper Fi!"
My intent is to gain fire superiority by assigning 1st and 2d Platoons to two separate support-by-fire positions in order to suppress the enemy. This will cause the enemy to focus his intentions and limited assets on two separate elements and a larger force, possibly making him feel overwhelmed. Simultaneously, the fire support team will initiate indirect fires on the enemy force in order to help dislodge them. The artillery FO will additionally work up a smoke mission, to be fired prior to 2d Platoon's assault. The FAC will have any air support assist in this effort and also provide air recon. This concentration of firepower will either dislodge or disorganize and confuse the enemy, so that 2d Platoon can establish a bridgehead and 1st Platoon can destroy whatever enemy remains. The final result will be a secure bridgehead for the regiment to use in order to continue their movement north.
